"Hi there! Welcome to UVic Personal Finance Club. I'm Edwin, founder, former president and current advisor of UVPF. Personal finance has always been a significant passion of mine. Growing up, my parents instilled in me the belief that 'money works in favor of those who can say "no" now in exchange for the ability to say "yes" later.' I've been fascinated by how discipline, patience, time, and compound interest can transform something small into something substantial over time. By allowing money to work for us with time, we can achieve remarkable growth.

I'm continually learning about personal finance every day. Recognizing the immense financial and lifestyle pressures that young adults face today, there has never been a greater need for knowledge to better manage our finances in an ever-evolving economy. I founded this club with the goal of promoting financial literacy and lifestyle mindfulness, ultimately aiming to help individuals make sound financial decisions to achieve their goals. "Hi there, I'm Josiah, and I'm currently studying Economics with a minor in Business Finance. Studying Economics with a minor in Business Finance has opened my eyes to the complexity of the financial world. During the summer of 2023, I interned at a financial planning office, and it became apparent to me that many people are mismanaging their personal finances due to a lack of knowledge. This club is our attempt to bridge the gap between young students and industry professionals in the hopes of educating as many people as we can and setting them up for financial success."

We will be providing plenty of value to those who attend our events.

Hi everyone! My name is Jordan, and I’m a fourth-year Commerce student at UVic and Vice President of the UVic Personal Finance Club. I’ve always been interested in personal finance, investing, and finding ways to make money feel less complicated. Outside of school, I work in accounting and create personal finance content online, where I share what I’m learning with other young Canadians. I’m excited to help grow the club and create a place where students can learn more about managing their money and investing for their future.
When I’m not talking about finance, you’ll probably find me surfing, snowboarding, or drinking a matcha.

Hello! My name is Kira Hutchinson. I am a Bachelor of Commerce student and an advocate for financial education. Part of the reason I joined our club is because I so sincerely support the UVic Personal Finance Club. It is not often you see resources like this, aimed at helping young students like us, for free! Personally, ever since I was young I came to realize the importance of financial freedom. Having worked at various customer service jobs, I fostered an understanding of the importance of income, and more importantly, how to make wise financial choices. As young adults, with all the financial information and choices out there, it can understandably be overwhelming. As a club, we are here to help guide you to your unique solution and instill a sense of confidence and security. With my position as Marketing Director I am excited to further promote our resources across our community.

"Hi everyone! My name is Juliana (or Julie for short), and I’m entering my third year in the Commerce program. I’m originally from several parts of Metro Vancouver (Surrey, Port Coquitlam, New West), but I have called Victoria home for eight years now.
I have a strong passion for personal finance and financial planning, which was nurtured by a Personal Finance Management course here at UVic. This sparked my interest in making financial knowledge accessible to everyone! I believe that by equipping young adults with sound financial decision-making skills, they can grow their money rather than learning through trial and error.
Whether you're interested in a career in finance (like me) or not, financial literacy is for everyone, so make sure to stop by one of our events!"

Hi, I'm Roan, and I am currently studying Economics with a minor in Business Finance. From a young age, my parents encouraged me to set aside small portions of money for savings, and over the years, my interest in personal finance and financial literacy has grown exponentially. For many Canadians and university students, this topic remains largely overlooked. While neglecting it may only seem like a minor bump in the road right now, it can lead to much bigger challenges in the long run. At our club, we aim to educate individuals of all backgrounds on the fundamentals of saving, investing, and smart money management to help them build a secure financial future.

Hi everyone, I'm Justin, a third year BCom student and the Director of Sponsorships and Partnerships for UVPF. Growing up around my dad's business, I heard a lot about the importance of investing, and that sparked my interest in personal finance early on. As soon as I turned 19, I opened my TFSA and started diving deeper into the world of investing. I consumed as much content as I could and learned a lot along the way. I truly believe financial literacy is one of the most important skills in today's day and age, especially with the rising cost of living. My goal with this club is to help students build that knowledge and create a community they can rely on for advice and questions
